Waterways Winter Plumbing Tips

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

The cold winter season is upon us with the possibility of Snowfall from Tuesday in various areas. This can lead to unexpected frigid temperatures, freezing rain, ice and snow that can cause expensive plumbing problems. By winterizing your home, you can avoid damage to your plumbing system.

Most Common Plumbing Problems To Avoid:

1. Garbage In Your Gutters
Clean out your gutters of debris and leaves.
All that gunk in your gutters accumulates. Snow and ice fall on top of the debris and may cause plumbing problems when you least expect it. After all, everything was working fine the day before and now you’ll have to deal with possible water leaks and damage to your plumbing systems.

2. Hose Hang Up
Store any exterior hoses for the winter.
Unattended exterior hoses can become a big problem. As culprit to larger problems, water can build up and freeze around spigots, leading to an excess of pressure, causing pipes to leak or burst. So, put away those hoses! If you leave non-winterized garden hoses outside, you may wind up with more problems than you bargained for.

3. Water Wonderland

Shut off your inside water valve.
If you forget, and leave your water on, the excess water within your outside lines can freeze. This increased water pressure can cause frozen pipes, leading to leaks when the snow melts.
Please don’t avoid winter plumbing maintenance early on. The cold conditions can certainly do a number on your plumbing system.

4. Dumpage And Sewage

Don’t eat and dump. The winter season brings more cooking in the kitchen and more guests at your home—sometimes including rowdy children with toys. Starchy food particles (or GI Joe toy soldiers) thrown down the garbage disposal can become major plumbing concerns.
While we think the disposal can handle everything, this winter comfort foods can solidify inside your pipes, causing major chaos. Throw out questionable food scraps in the trash bin, and don’t pour grease down the drain or disposal.
Not to mention your bathroom. This area of the house is not to be forgotten either. Your toilets: let’s not go there, you say? Not a good move. Don’t dump more than you have to there either.

No matter what season it is, sink drips or clogged pipes can often be a quick fix. But, let’s not take the chance, primarily when there’s snow and ice outdoors. Snow and ice can amplify plumbing problems.

MATIAM COETZEE & STEVEN FOUCHE
MANAGING DIRECTORS

WaterWays takes pride in supplying high-quality, value-for-money local and international products, backed by SABS standards or Sans approval. The company is owner-managed, which helps it
maintain the highest level of service possible. Then meeting with new clients, we like to find out what the clients’ ideas are around their project – the image they have of their completed bathroom.

We then guide them to get the best value for money, keeping in mind the practicality of the design. Don’t make the mistake of wanting a water-wise bathroom without making sure you have the correct water pressure to accommodate water-wise products. This is most true in the shower. Changing your taps’ aerators is a very cost-effective way of going water-wise immediately and many bathroom products available today are water-wise with low flow rate designs.

We feel every bathroom should have a well-designed shower head. There is nothing that beats that feeling of water drops on your skin, whether you have just woken up from a good night’s rest or just returned from a tiring day’s work. We have world-renowned companies that work daily on increasing your shower experience. The latest shower design trends have Vertical LED TV screens, sensual aroma shower tablets and different shower sprays to awaken or relax your body.

“What do you get when you put a plumber in a boxing ring? A champion, of course.

On Saturday, 20 July, we witnessed a champion being born when our plumber, Rob participated and SMASHED the clash of the plumbing industry heavyweights.

We’re proud to have him on the Waterways team and we would like to wish him a huge congratulations on his winning victory.”

Scoring education goals through social upliftment.

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 18 Second

It’s a very bleak reality across South Africa that low standards of education offered to the disadvantaged can become a poverty trap. Although a constant bone of contention, with efforts being made by many parties within our country to better the situation, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), still places us at number 75 out of 76 countries worldwide with substandard education – a massive cause for national concern.

So, what do we do to stop this constant cycle, to combat the ripple effect caused by the pitfalls within our system? How do we begin to eradicate poverty, promote economic growth and fit the building blocks of quality education into place?  We start a soccer match.

Proudly sponsored by Hansgrohe SA, the Young Bafana Soccer Academy provides youngsters from some of the poorest areas in the Western Cape a chance to erase the penalties of poverty and make tangible life changes. Youth between the ages of 5 and 19 years old now have a place where their potential can be harnessed, through education, life skills and youth development programmes; all whilst honing their soccer skills.

“Our programmes are designed to help individuals develop holistically, build confidence and keep active”, says founder Bernd Steinhage, “Our ultimate goal is to ensure that each participant passes Matric with an exemption so that they can potentially further their studies at tertiary educational institutes.”

The academy works closely with a psychometric professional to provide students with career guidance suited to them through aptitude tests. Academically, the academy offers Maths and English tuition supported through Somerset West Private School and Maths Man, and players with both literacy and numeracy difficulties are assessed and provided with programmes to address these issues. The academy also has two full time teachers who are on hand to provide academic support to any of the beneficiaries.

And the best part? The students get to not only polish up their academic skills, but their soccer ones too. The soccer programme includes training five times a week, along with soccer kits for the players. Safe transport to and from their homes ensures that they never have to miss a session and each and every player receives a meal at every practice session. Whether they have high hopes of becoming Bafana Bafana’s next goal kicking superstar or are there to have fun with their friends while learning, the Academy offers them a safe space to put aside their economic struggles and just enjoy themselves, scoring an education along the way.

Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Steinhage and his team, the boys at the Young Bafana Soccer Academy are embracing their academic futures and kicking poverty to the curb – one goal at a time.

HANSGROHE CELEBRATES WORLD PLUMBING DAY

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second

Monday, 11 March marks the annual celebration of plumbers around the world; a field that Hansgrohe closely monitors, supports and (let’s be honest) couldn’t live without. World Plumbing Day is an important international event which highlights the exceptionally important role that plumbers play in our society’s everyday hygiene and basic comfort.

For their continued sacrifice to the greater cause, Hansgrohe salutes plumbers everywhere!

Is that all?

Of course not. Hansgrohe is more than a leading sanitary fittings manufacturer exporting to over 140 countries after all. Just as we salute the curators of fine pipes, we celebrate the art of plumbing itself.

Our commitment to our clients

Hansgrohe offers a 15-year warranty on all products except sinks – which have a five-year warranty. If, at any stage, a customer has an issue with the product, they are encouraged to call the closest service department, who will send a technician out to find the solution as fast as possible.

Free of charge.

Our commitment to plumbers

But Hansgrohe’s biggest source of piping pride comes with our offer to all plumbers, architects, developers and anyone else who may need to handle or install Hansgrohe products: free onsite training. If anyone finds themselves in an unfamiliar situation, or requires help with their current job, they can call Hansgrohe for training on that specific scenario.

No matter who is in charge of the development, the plumbing or the logistics, Hansgrohe is more than happy to send technicians down to the site to assist in any way that they can. Provided the site is using Hansgrohe products of course! Our technicians are bathroom professionals who are experienced in application technology and are most familiar with our quality products.

This is partly to ensure that the products are installed properly, and to avoid later complications.

But mostly, this is because when Hans Grohe founded this company, he made a decision that we stick to 117 years later: to provide the world with the best sanitary fittings that we could make.

Here´s to honouring an industry made great by true plumbing artisans – and products.

HANSGROHE IS OFF TO FRANKFURT TO ATTEND ISH

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 25 Second

For the week of March 11 to March 15, the Festhalle in Frankfurt is giving market leaders in sanitation the chance to launch their latest products, technologies and solutions onto the world market.

The Festhalle will play host to the world’s leading trade fair focusing on the responsible management of water and energy in buildings; the ISH. There is no other show on earth which sets its sights on forward-looking subjects like resource conservation and the use of renewable energies. The ISH also leads the charge in showcasing sanitary installations, intelligent living and innovative building solutions.

Why the fuss?

Over the course of a few decades, the ISH has grown to be a leading global forum to present results, advances and discussions amidst engineers, researchers and scientists. The ISH gives these experts a chance to share ideas, knowledge and expertise on their specific fields.

This year’s ISH will feature more than 2,400 exhibitors and promises over 200,000 visitors, specifically for bathroom trends and innovations in building services and sanitation technology. 64 percent of the exhibitors are from outside of Germany as are 40% of the visitors. This gives the ISH a critical role in helping people from around the global stay abreast of local trends in the market.

The Bathroom Experience

This part of the exhibition speaks for itself. Manufacturers will be presenting all of their latest design trends, along with sustainable solutions for the changing landscape of modern technology and housing.

The majority of this showcase will be looking to answer the question, “What will the bathroom of the future look like?”

A question you can bet Hansgrohe will be looking to answer.
